Engility (formerly DRC)

State of California CDCR Project

Led a team of 7 Instructional Designers and Technical Writers to collaboratively develop instructor-led training, user reference materials, and a comprehensive Online Help system for the California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation's new Strategic Offender Management System (SOMS).

These materials are behind lock and key, one might say, and understandably so. They describe the use of the software system used to house inmates throughout their incarceration and parole. Therefore, you won't see work samples.

Developed a collaborative single-source development methodology using Madcap Software's Flare to create a unified training and documentation suite that saved 20% of development time and reduced maintenance for the client.

Delivered classroom knowledge transfer lessons on using Flare to maintain the documentation suite.

Delivered national and local presentations and webinars on the development methodology to the Society for Technical Communication and Madcap Software. Received a Product Developer of the Year "Stevie" award, as well as two Key Performer awards by DRC.

Performed task, needs, and audience analyses, interviewed client subject matter experts, developed and refined instructor-led materials, wrote and illustrated online help topics, and shepherded the training materials through formal Work Product Reviews to gain approval by the client. Project included 12 training modules and well over 2000 help topics.

Created a workbook to track development effort, show shared information, and collate status information for management. Set up and managed the SharePoint team workspaces.

Mentored the SOMS documentation team as well as the Documentation Lead at the MiSACWIS (Child welfare system for Michigan) project. Assisted with other state and local projects as needed.
